Operational Overview
Imritec’s Low-flux Tilting Rotary Furnace processes maximise aluminium recovery from aluminium dross. Our Proprietary Residue Treatment Plant has the ability to recycle flux for internal utilisation whilst also producing a wide range of alumina-based products with industrial applications (including bauxite substitutes, agricultural fertilizers and water purification).
Cradle-to-Grave Recycling Process

Environmental sustainability neccesitates the shift away from traditional waste management practices of landfilling dross residue.
Imritec has proactively invested in Research and Development to identify waste treatment solutions to turn dross residue into sustainable and commercially-viable products.
Imritec’s Zero-Waste or Cradle-to-Grave process assists in driving a greener economy.

Variety of Dross and Scrap
Imritec’s operations are able to treat a variety of dross types (including large pressed skulls), as well as light weight foil, filters and scrap.
Imritec provides further value to its customers by:
- Maintaining detailed records of all dross processed (whilst meticulously segregating and categorizing dross to avoid cross contamination);
- Implementing a process where metal alloy returned is the same as that of the dross received (Alumicor Maritzburg have successfully achieved this for Hulamin, who have over 10 different dross and alloy types, for the last 15 years); and
Proving a complete Mass Balance to customers, accounting for every kilogram of material that enters the process, including what is marketable.
Low Flux TRF Operations
Imritec processes cold dross skimmed directly from the furnace which reduces metal loss due to oxidisation.
Reliable and well proven process with minimal technology risk – Big factor in such a highly corrosive and abrasive environment.
Innovative technology combined with rotary furnace reduces oxidation and metal loss whereby achieving metal recoveries consistently higher than our competitors.
Minimal energy consumption using LPG-based oxy-fuel system which is both cost efficient and lower emissions in comparison to Natural Gas.
Flexibility in dealing with a wide range of dross alloys as well as difficult scraps such as foil, borings and turnings.
Baghouse technology accompanying the furnaces reduce emissions to acceptable levels with the resultant bag house dust recoverable and treated within our Residue Recycling Plant.
